Cyril Hall

28/8/2023

Last December, The Village Hall lost one of its longest serving patrons with the passing of Cyril Hall.

Cyril had been a member of the Village Club for decades and a regular in the lounge bar, calling in for a drink most evenings.

All of us at the hall were very touched to discover that he had left a bequest in his will to the Village Hall. After discussion with the Trustees of the Hall, the Bar Committee and Cyril's family it was decided to use the money to purchase a new bench to sit in the vacant area by the ramp down to the lounge. The bench was chosen also to commemorate the Coronation in May of King Charles III.

The bench has now been installed at the hall (see pictures) and will be officially 'unveiled' this Saturday just ahead of the opening of the village fete at 1pm.

LIGHTING UPGRADE IN THE VILLAGE HALL LOUNGE

8/9/2021

We have recently completed an upgrade to our lighting in the lounge at the village hall, replacing old neon lights with new LED lights on dimmable circuits.

Tim Davies, Chair of Hilperton Village Hall, said: “Two years ago we carried out a similar project in the main hall and it is great to now complete the upgrade with the lounge. The new lights give a much gentler light, are much more attractive looking, are flexible with the dimmable circuits and use less than half the energy of the previous lights. This makes the lounge much more attractive for events and a more pleasant environment for Village Club Members who use the lounge Sunday to Friday every week. We are very grateful to Hilperton Parish Council which provided a grant to pay for the improvement and also to T&S Lux Electrical who completed the work.”

Ernie Clark, Chairman of Hilperton Parish Council, said: “The Parish Council is delighted to have assisted the village hall with their new lighting.  If any local voluntary organisation would like to apply for a capital grant please contact either myself or the Parish Clerk.”

Your Ideas Wanted!

19/4/2021

Picture
The last couple of months have seen great progress made in the battle against COVID-19 in the UK. Meanwhile the team at Hilperton Village Hall has been focusing on two things.

Firstly, keeping the hall safe and maintained and ready to gradually reopen with each stage of the Government’s ‘roadmap’. Secondly, starting to plan a calendar of events at the hall once restrictions allow us to open and it’s safe to do so. Hopefully from July onwards.

THIS IS WHERE YOU COME IN!

The hall is Charity run for the benefit of the community, and whilst it’s also available for private hire, we are keen to develop the hall as a community hub.

We’re looking for your ideas, suggestions and recommendations for what you’d like to see happening over the next year or two once we fully re-open.

At this stage, no idea is a bad idea, but not all ideas will make it through to delivery.

We can’t wait to hear your suggestions.

Hall Reopens for Limited Activities - Update 12th April

11/4/2021

With 'Step 2' of the Government's 'Roadmap' out of lockdown, the hall will start to reopen from 12th April.

Outdoor activities re-started at the end of March with adult and junior football training and matches at the hall.

From Monday 12th April children's activities, including dance classes, can restart but any adult activities with a social element, including exercise classes, are not allowed until 'Step 3' which will be no earlier that Monday 17th May. This includes the lounge bar as we don't have the facilities to operate outdoor only hospitality.

Parties (apart from limited exceptions for weddings and funerals) will not be allowed until 'Step 4' which is scheduled for no earlier than Monday 21st June.

If you have any questions or for any booking enquiries post 21st June email us at [email protected]

Government Announce ‘Roadmap’ out of Lockdown           Update 27 February

27/2/2021

It was great to hear news this week of the Government’s Plan for the gradual release from lockdown over the next four months.

The Government has emphasised that all dates are ‘not before’ and reliant on its ‘four tests’ continuing to be met.

At the hall we will want to reopen for appropriate activities, as we are allowed and it is safe to do so.

This will start with supporting our football teams when they resume outside from 29th March.

Under ‘Step 2’, potentially from 12th April, the hall will reopen to allow Children’s activities to restart.  We don’t have the facilities to consider reopening our bar just for outdoor service.

Then under ‘Step 3’, potentially from 17th May, adult activities such as exercise classes can restart and our bar can reopen. Wedding celebrations and wakes for up to 30 people can also take place.

Step Four is scheduled for no earlier than 21st June and this would allow full reopening including parties, events and other activities.

We are now taking bookings for the summer and autumn for parties and other events.

Reopening Children's Play Area - 4th July

3/7/2020

Picture
We are delighted that, following the new Government Guidance, we will be reopening our Children’s Play Area from Saturday 4th July.

A list of new measures we are asking people to follow is listed below and will be displayed on signage around the play area.

Re-opening of the Children’s Play Area and Your Safety

We would ask that all users of the Children’s Play Area follow these additional new guidelines to help keep themselves and others safe:
  • Children should not use the Play Area if they or those supervising them are unwell, especially if they are coughing or sneezing.
  • One supervising adult per child only within the play area to limit possible spread of infection.
  • Supervising adults are asked to have sanitizing hand gel available and use before and after using the Play Area.
  • Consider wearing face coverings (not for children under 3) and sanitizing equipment before use.
  • Children must be CLOSELY supervised by an adult at all times when using the Play Area.
  • Children from different households must stay 2m apart when using the Play Area. If this is not possible due to congestion then the Play Area should not be used.
  • If the area is busy, please limit your time.
  • Try to discourage touching of faces whilst using the play area.
  • No food or drink consumed in the Play Area.
  • It is even more important that all litter is either taken home or placed in the bin provided.

Thank you for your help in keeping the play area safe.

We hope you are well and staying safe in these difficult times. With the Government’s announcement on easing of restrictions from 4th July we wanted to provide an update on our current thinking on how and when we will be able to reopen our village hall.

There are two parts to our organisation, hire of the hall (including playing field use) and our Members’ Bar run by our Village Club.

The Members’ Bar is working towards reopening with reduced hours and new procedures to ensure we are COVID secure.  Our target date is Monday 13th July but this will be confirmed nearer the time.

Given government restrictions we anticipate that the hall will need to reopen gradually. For example parties are still not allowed and indoor exercise and dance classes are also still not permitted.

However it is possible that some activities where social distancing can be observed could take place from Monday 6th July and the children’s outdoor playground will reopen on Saturday 4th July.

As and when we have more news on our reopening, we will provide a further update.

We have confirmed to our many regular users that their current spots will be held for them until the hall is able to fully reopen.

Many thanks for your support of our hall.

Update re Coronavirus and the Village Hall

18/3/2020

Information for all users of the Village Hall.

The Government advice to restrict social gatherings has had a major impact on the village hall:
> A number of our regular weekly users have decided to halt their activities for the time being. We have been in touch with them all and assured them that we will hold their spots and they will have first option to resume their activities when they feel able.
> Some of our regular users want to continue to run their activities and the hall will be available for them to do so.
> Private Bookings for Parties. We have been in touch with all those who have parties and other events booked at the hall and offered them the chance to postpone or cancel their events.
> For the safety of customers and our staff we decided it is best to close our regular evening bar at our Village Club with immediate effect.
> The outside areas including playing fields and children's recreation area will stay open to the public and will continue to the maintained - grass mowed etc.

Hilperton Village Hall is a charity based in the community for the benefit of our community and we see our role to provide whatever support we can during this difficult period and we will be ready to restore a full range of activities at the hall when this is appropriate.

If you have any questions please contact us at [email protected]
