History of the Village Hall
The Village Hall has been a central and crucial part of village life in Hilperton it was a place to meet up, have a laugh, dance, sing & a drink.

The Village Hall was not always located where it is now it was once located at the bottom of the hill on Hill street near Greenhill Gardens. It was a wood & tin hut like the ones used for the army on Sailsbury plain.

THE HILPERTON INSTITUTE was completely destroyed by fire in July 1939, the reason for the fire was never found. The remains of the hall being mainly chiefly corrugated iron. Besides the loss of a valuable community resource the village lost two billiard tables, a piano and a stage with new scenery.
Here are two pictures of the local residents going through the remains of the village hall to find any valuable things.
The Village Hall then got rebuilt as a converted nissen hut in its current location in Whaddon Lane in July 1951.

It was then rebuilt and improved in 1974, with a further
extension (the lounge bar) being built and added in 1981.
The Lounge bar got built on the right side of the hall. This part of the hall provided residents with a bar & social club where they can meet, chat & enjoy a drink.
Here is a before and after shot of the Hall without & then with the lounge bar added.
